RentSafeTO is the City of Toronto's enforcement program for apartment buildings with 3+ storeys and 10+ units. City staff evaluate each registered building on dozens of items — elevators, lobby, laundry, garbage rooms, exterior, pests and more — and the results become the score shown on every building page on this site.
Reading the number
The score is a percentage of possible points across the areas evaluated. Two cautions. First, a score reflects common areas at evaluation time, not conditions inside units. Second, a building can score well while its owner files heavily at the LTB — scores and orders measure different things, which is exactly why this site shows both.
What happens to low scorers
Buildings scoring below the City's audit threshold (50%) get a full audit and follow-up enforcement; scores also set how often a building is re-evaluated. The City has been consulting on a revised system using percentile categories and colour-coded signage, so treat cross-year comparisons with care.
